Thursday 27th July 2017

Departure 8am from Taverham - Show 14.30hrs

New London Theatre (Covent Garden)

Andrew Lloyd Webber, the man who brought rock and romance to Broadway, is back with a new heart-stirring hit. SCHOOL OF ROCK is a New York Times Critics’ Pick and “AN INSPIRING JOLT OF ENERGY, JOY AND MAD SKILLZ!” (Entertainment Weekly ). Reuters raves ”ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER HAS BROADWAY ROCKING AGAIN!”

Based on the hit film, this hilarious new musical follows Dewey Finn, a failed, wannabe rock star who decides to earn a few extra bucks by posing as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. There he turns a class of straight-A students into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band. While teaching these pint-sized prodigies what it means to truly rock, Dewey falls for the school’s beautiful, but uptight headmistress, helping her rediscover the wild child within. (The New York Times says, “BE WARNED! There’s a love story in this one.”)

Featuring 14 new songs from Andrew Lloyd Webber and all the original songs from the movie, this high-octane smash delivers face-melting guitar riffs and touching romance in equally awesome doses! The Daily News cheers, ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER “AWAKENS THE EMPOWERING MESSAGE OF ROCK!” and Time Out New York raves, “SCHOOL’s in – FOREVER!”

Harry Potter Warner Bros. Studio Tour – Please ring or email for availability

Thursday 3rd August 2017 - Departure 1.30pm (5pm tour)

The Harry Potter film series made Leavesden its home for more than ten years. As the books were still being released while the films were being made, the production crew saved many of the iconic sets, props and costumes that were created especially for the films - just in case they were ever needed later on in the series.

Once filming wrapped on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 in 2010, the production crew were left with a treasure trove of thousands of intricate and beautifully-made artefacts, many of which wouldn't have been saved on a typical production.

The team behind Warner Bros. Studio Tour London - The Making of Harry Potter wanted to preserve and showcase these iconic props, costumes and sets so that Harry Potter fans could experience the magic of filmmaking first-hand. Many of the original cast and crew returned to reassemble the sets and record their memories from filming, and on 31st March 2012, the Studio Tour opened its doors.

Set adjacent to the working film studios where all eight Harry Potter films were made, the Studio Tour offers visitors the unique opportunity to explore two soundstages and a backlot filled with original sets, animatronic creatures and breathtaking special effects.

Stanta – Battle Training Ground – Thetford – SOLD OUT

Wednesday 13th September 2017

Many will have see the red & white 'STANTA' signs near Thetford.  But what is it.......??

Stanford Training Area (STANTA), originally known as Stanford Battle Area, is a British Army training area situated in the English county of Norfolk. The area is approximately 30,000 acres (120 km2) in size; it is some 7 miles (11 km) north of the town of Thetford and 25 miles (40 km) south-west of the city of Norwich. The site is run by the Operational Training and Advisory Group (OPTAG).

The area was originally established in 1942 when a battle training area was required and a 'Nazi village' established. Military exercises were already known in the area; tanks had deployed to Thetford in the First World War. The complete takeover involved the evacuation of the villages of Buckenham Tofts, Langford, Stanford, Sturston, Tottington and West Tofts.

The area was used during the run-up to the D-Day invasion and since then has hosted many exercises. A regular visitor is 16 Air Assault Brigade who hold their annual Gryphon exercises there. It is also used by cadets to complete Fieldcraft exercises.

In 2009 a 12.5-acre (51,000 m2) village designed to replicate its Afghan equivalent, was added to the Battle Area for the training of troops deployed in support of the War in Afghanistan. The site, built at a cost of £14 million, is state of the art and manned by Afghan nationals, ex-Gurkha soldiers and amputee actors, who simulate the Afghan National Army, locals and wounded soldiers.  The village includes houses, a market and a mosque. It also features a system that pumps out smells like rotten meat and sewage.  Further details can be seen by pasting the following link.

Only a handful of tours are arranged each year and IC Travel have secured a rare opportunity to visit this secretive location.  Under 16's not permitted.

Motown the Musical !

Thursday 14th September 2017

MOTOWN THE MUSICAL follows the legendary career of Berry Gordy and the creation of his musical empire, Motown Records. The story begins in 1983, on the evening of the 25th anniversary celebration of Motown, and Berry Gordy is looking back on his career. Inspired by his childhood hero, black American boxer Joe Louis, the young Berry dreams big, hoping one day to make people as happy and proud. After a few years on Detroit’s automobile assembly line he sets his sights on bringing a socially charged, racially divided country together with music. With an $800 loan from his family, Berry founds a music making factory. Motown is born!

Motown

Berry signs a series of groundbreaking artists including Diana Ross and the Supremes, Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, Marvin Gaye, The Temptations and more. But with the Vietnam War looming and America at a cultural turning point, Berry realises the time has come to push for something bigger than he ever dreamed of: to make music that could get the whole world moving to the same beat.

MOTOWN THE MUSICAL tells the thrilling tale of the man who broke barriers and fought against the odds to define the sound of a generation – complete with the ups and downs of the personal relationships, the professional struggles, and – of course – the music that made history. Discover the story behind the beat that changed minds, touched lives and took the world by storm. MOTOWN THE MUSICAL shows how one label and its roster of legendary artists created the soundtrack that transformed America and gave the world a new musical vocabulary – the Motown Sound. With over 40 classic songs such as “My Girl”, “Stop! In The Name of Love”, “Dancing in the Street”, “I Heard It Through The Grapevine” and “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”, this explosive event is the next chapter of Motown’s incredible history – and an experience you’ll never forget.

SALUTE TO THE 40S

Chatham 40's 2

Keep Calm and Carry On to one of Britain’s Best Vintage Festivals (as designated by the Daily Telegraph in 2014).  On 16th and 17th September 2017 visitors will be transported back in time as soon as they step foot into The Historic Dockyard Chatham.  The very best in 1940’s Entertainers, with singing and dancing throughout the day, Military and Home Front Displays, Air Displays, Vehicle Parades, Vintage Fashion, Vintage Fair and the spiffingly nostalgic atmosphere from start to finish.  Salute to the ‘40s is a wonderful day out for all ages and particularly those with a special interest in all things ‘vintage’.

Originally based on the series of booked written by Jennifer Worth, the award winning TV adaptation of Call the Midwife has attracted fans worldwide since it first aired in 2012. Whilst the Nonnatus House interiors are filmed at a closed studio set in Surrey, many of the exterior scenes and other sites are filmed at Chatham Dockyard in Kent.

Watched by more than 10 million viewers and now up to its fifth series the Historic Dockyard Chatham in Kent has been used to represent the impoverished parts of the East End of London in the 1950’s and 1960’s.

As you walk around the dockyard you will recognise the streets and buildings that have been used to portray the area around Poplar Dock where many memorable scenes involving its stars including Miranda Hart and Jenny Agutter have taken place.

The Call the Midwife Tour of Locations is a gentle paced walking tour led by your very own ‘midwife’. Your ‘midwife’ will share with you fascinating anecdotes about the filming of the show, behind the scenes facts and set the scene by providing a background to Chatham Dockyard itself.

A variety of other locations around The Dockyard have also appeared in the BBC One production as well as countless other movies and TV shows.

Diana: Her Fashion Story – 20 years on at Kensington Palace (27th Jan)

Saturday 27th January 2018

Celebrate the life of Princess Diana at Kensington Palace in 2018. Few people have made such an impact on the world as Diana, Princess of Wales.

2017 will mark the 20th anniversary of her death in 1997, and Historic Royal Palaces will celebrate her life with a new exhibition and commemorative garden, opening at Kensington Palace in 2017.

Kensington Palace was a place of unique significance in the life of Diana, Princess of Wales. As well as being her home from 1981, she also regularly hosted receptions for her many charities in the State Apartments and Orangery. Alongside the new exhibition and garden will run a programme of talks and events exploring Princess Diana’s enduring legacy.

‘Diana: Her Fashion Story’ will trace the evolution of the Princess’s style, from the demure, romantic outfits of her first public appearances, to the glamour, elegance and confidence of her later life. From her earliest royal engagements, everything Diana wore was closely scrutinised, and the exhibition will explore how she navigated her unique position in the public eye: learning to use her image to engage and inspire people, and to champion the causes she cared about.

Discover exquisite and celebrated outfits from throughout the Princess’s public life. The exhibition will bring together an extraordinary collection of garments, ranging from the glamorous evening gowns worn on engagements in the 1980s, to the chic Catherine Walker suits that made up Diana’s ‘working wardrobe’ in the 1990s. The Princess’s relationship with her favourite designers will be explored through a display of some of their original fashion sketches, created for her during the design process.

Exhibition highlights will include the pale pink Emanuel blouse worn for Diana’s engagement portrait by Lord Snowdon in 1981, and Victor Edelstein’s iconic ink blue velvet gown, famously worn at the White House when the Princess danced with John Travolta. A blue tartan Emanuel suit, worn for an official visit to Venice in the 1980s, will go on display in public for the first time. The suit, a rare survival of the Princess’s daywear, was only recently rediscovered and acquired by Historic Royal Palaces – the charity responsible for Kensington Palace - at auction.

Sunday 19th July 2018

Find out more about the castle and your visit by clicking here.

Highclere Castle is not only a beautiful building, but a warm and welcoming home. Playing host to family and friends, but also to events and celebrations with visitors and guests from around the world.

We are delighted to welcome you to explore the history of the Castle, the illuminating Egyptian Exhibition narrating the discovery of the Tomb of Tutankhamun, and the peace and tranquillity of the surrounding gardens and grounds.

Many of the rooms and vistas will be familiar to viewers of ‘Downton Abbey’ – both the Drawing Room and Dining Room forming the backdrop to the dryly withering put-downs delivered by Maggie Smith, as the Dowager Countess to some poor unfortunate relation. The distinctive gardens and park designed by Capability Brown, offer interest and enjoyment throughout the year and gratifying growth and change, as the seasons turn.

Taking place on a landscaped open air stage (equivalent to five football pitches with a full-size lake at its centre) against the backdrop of Auckland Castle, you will be immersed in 2,000 years of history, with a movie-like, fast-paced and action-packed journey from Roman times to the Second World War, through the Viking invasions, the splendour of the Tudors, the Industrial Revolution and the Roaring Twenties. As the story unfolds you’ll be treated to ships and a steam train, mass choreography, combat, dance, dazzling pyrotechnics and grandiose lighting and water effects. More than 1,000 volunteers are involved as cast and crew, with an accompanying cast of animals comprising performance horses, sheep, goats, cattle and even ducks. Our volunteers having been professionally trained by top performance experts, including teams who have delivered the mass choreography of London 2012 Opening Ceremony.
