English Whisky Distillery & Moongazer Brewery Tour + Lunch – Thursday 7th April 2022 – Coach trip from Norwich

Thursday 7th April 2022

Departure Time: 9:45am

Let us do the driving and enjoy some of Norfolk's best tipples and a lunch!

We shall start the day with a trip to East Harling to the Norfolk Whisky Company to enjoy a tour of the distillery followed by a few samples (!) and lunch.  In the afternoon we shall head to North Norfolk and visit the award winning Moongazer Brewery for maybe a few more tastings.....

The English Whisky Company

"We are England's oldest and most prestigious whisky distillery. An independent family owned business, born out of the Nelstrop families passion for single malt Whisky and built for the sole intention of handcrafting the finest English Single Malt Whisky.

Based in Norfolk, using locally sourced barley and fresh water from the Brecklands aquifer, which runs beneath the distillery, our Master Distiller meticulously handcrafts the spirit, which is then filled into the finest oak casks and left to mature for years. Once matured to perfection, specific casks are selected to be hand bottled on site and released as English Single Malt Whisky.

We supply a large range of businesses across the UK, from small farm shops and delis to specialist wine and spirits suppliers and wholesalers and distribute to many countries across the world.

Take a guided tour of our magnificent distilling floor and barrel warehouse. Discover how our wonderful single malt whiskies are made and how St George’s Distillery became the first distillery in England to produce whisky in over 100 years. Finish your tour with the tasting of 1 award winning English Whisky and 1 liqueur. Receive a £5 discount voucher which can be redeemed on English Whisky branded items (RRP over £30) - (see terms and conditions) and receive a mini tasting glass to take home (over 18’s only)."

Moongazer Brewery

"The Norfolk Brewhouse is owned and run by Rachel and David Holliday – a couple with a passion for crafting distinctive, high-quality beers. Our brewery has breathed new life into a redundant old barn, on an arable farm, in North Norfolk. Its rural setting – right in the heart of the country’s finest malting barley region – is just the start.

We make the most of all that is around us; chalk-filtered water from the brewery’s own well and Norfolk’s finest malting barley. Incidentally, we feed the brewing grains to some very grateful cows.

Even the names of our beers – Moon Gazer Ale and StubbleStag premium lager – were inspired by the wildlife around us, reflecting as they do the stunning sight of wild hares transfixed by the moon.  All great stuff, but add to this some modern thinking, modern hop varieties, nifty innovation and some very up-to-date brewing kit and you get hand-crafted beers which ensure that every drop is as good as the last."

Constable Country & Lavenham – Wednesday 13th April 2022

Wednesday 13th April 2022

Join us on this popular trip on the Suffolk & Essex border as we call in at Lavenham  for a short while before heading to Dedham, Constables birth place where you will have time for a spot of lunch.  After lunch we head to Flatford Mill, scene of some of Constables most famous paintings.  If you feel fit you may want to walk across the footpaths to the Mill!

A visit to Flatford Mill in Flatford, East Bergholt, makes for a relaxing day out. The scene has been immortalised by John Constable in his painting of The Haywain, and the Mill is still recognisable. Attached to the Mill, which is a Grade 1-listed watermill originally built in 1733, is a 17th-Century miller’s cottage which is also Grade I listed. The Watermill is located in the centre of Dedham Vale, a wonderfully English village close to the border with Essex. This is part of the Dedham Vale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty so take your time to savour the area. The Mill was once owned by Constable’s father and Constable made both the Mill and the surrounding area the subjects of many of his works of art, which are now world famous.

Cambridge Cultural Icons – Thursday 2nd June 2022 – Coach trip from Norwich

Thursday 2nd June 2022

Meet the top notch Blue Badge Tour Guide at 10.30am at one of the UK's newest architectural treasures - the Cambridge Eco Mosque.

There will be time for morning refreshments at the Mosque (included) before being taken on a guided tour. Worshippers and visitors (all are welcome, men and women of all faiths) enter via the Islamic garden before passing through a covered portico and then an atrium, preparing them gradually for the contemplation of the prayer hall, facing Mecca. This combination of gardens with whispering fountains and vaulted prayer spaces has been used to great effect throughout Islamic history.

The building is an Eco-Mosque, constructed to run on as little fuel as possible, to recycle rainwater, to make maximum use of natural light and to harness the power of the sun.

On leaving the Mosque we head to the heart of Cambridge to break for time to buy lunch which will include the free time option to visit the "greatest little museum in the world". The Fitzwilliam Museum is a glittering jewel in the crown of the University of Cambridge.  You will have time for private exploration plus a highlights tour of the Fitzwilliam with our Blue Badge Guide. This mini British Museum holds the University's art collection so prepare to be impressed..

We round off our entertaining and erudite day out with one last visit to a Cambridge Cultural Icon - the Orchard Tea Gardens in Grantchester for a cream tea (included in tour price). For over 700 years, students such as Newton, Darwin, Cromwell, Milton, Wordsworth, Coleridge, Tennyson, Marlow and Spenser have walked, ridden or boated from Cambridge to Grantchester Village. Once best known for the Old Vicarage and Rupert Brooke's Stands the clock at ten to three, Granchester is now also recognised the world over for the erudite and eponymous detective drama.
